The Glacier wine |
|
This world famous wine is only found in the Val d’Anniviers, in Grimentz to be precise.
The 1888 wine is decanted into the 1886’s cask, the 1934’s in the 1988’s and the 1969’s in the 1934’s. The 1969 cask will receive the this year’s wine. The same operation is repeated every year in May. The casks are never totally emptied and the residue of wine can sometimes form a crust of more than 4 cm. The casks are carefully kept from generation to generation and a good number of them are more than 250 years old. There are, in the old village of Grimentz, about 60 wine cellars and about 100 in the whole of the commune and they all cherish a cask of the famous “Vin de Glacier”. |

Bread-making in the communal oven |

| Up until the beginning of this century every single family in Grimentz used to utilize the communal oven to bake their bread. Relive this tradition and walk away with a rye loaf and your head full of anecdotes of the life in the village as it used to be. |
